A Girly Birthday
Spane and Noelle are very good friends, and play together a lot. Her mother, Amber, and I sat down a few weeks ago and started making plans for the party. Amber is going to make a waterfall scene cake, and I told her I would make some pixies for it. I will be posting that when I make them made the Pixie wings, as the party is not for another 10 2 days, and now, I have made the pixies out of marzipan. But, we went to Michaels and got some great gifts to make for Noelle. You can view the album of pictures we took to see the completed projects.
Ribbons and Bows
I have always loved big hair bows to tie my hair back, and I actually have quite the collection. My dilemma has been that I don’t have X bow to match Y outfit. Now that is not a problem since I have a Bowdabra, and French barrettes from Michaels.
If you are serious about making beautiful bows, then you have to get yourself a Bowdabra. I remember as a child helping my mother make bows for Christmas packages, and having to hold my finger just so as she tightened the ribbon, quite frequently cutting off my circulation in the process! No more – now the Bowdabra holds the ribbon for you, and makes making spectacular ribbons easy. There are how tos and videos at the Bowdabra website.
While I was at Michaels, I found some long tricolor taffy that I’m going to use for the pixie’s “clothes”, and I got ribbon to match the “clothes”, that I could make a hair bow, and also make a bow for the present.
Flip Flops
I don’t know about you, but I love flip flops in the summer. But, they are either very boring and cheap, or they are decorated and expensive. Well, not anymore. Michaels was demonstrating their flip flop package, and Spane thought that would be a great thing for Noelle, too.
After picking up ribbons for the bow, French barrettes, a sticker book for Noelle, and the flip flop craft project, we then got a large white gift bag that we could decorate. Then we went home and immediately started our project.
Making the Bow
Using my handy, dandy Bowdabra, it was simply a matter of looping the ribbon then tying it off, and hot gluing it to the French barrette base. Then I hot glued some rhinestones on for extra Wow!.
The Barrettes
There were 9 French Barrettes in the package, three large ones, three medium ones, and three littles ones. To compliment the large bow already made, I took two medium barrettes and decorated them. I spread white glue on, then rose colored glitter. I let that dry, and then I hot glued a row of rhinestones on each barrette.
The Flip Flops
The craft package came with two large rhinestone clips and a long link of sticky rhinestones. I stuck the rhinestones on the flip flops, hot gluing those that did not want to stick. The clip thing did not want to work correctly, so I put a big glob of hot glue and hot glued those on as well. They will probably outlast the flip flops!
Making the Gift Bag
Spane was all excited because this was something that finally was not going to be using the glue gun. He’s afraid it’s going to burn him, and with good reason – I tried to hot glue the tip of my index finger! Ouch!
Spane has a plastic stencil with Happy Birthday, a rainbow, and some other sayings. He practiced with a plain piece of paper, and then he stenciled Happy Birthday and a rainbow and both sides of the bag in orange pencil, then he used a purple pencil and made a box around the words, and Noelle’s name. It looked great!
Then I cut out accent flowers using green and yellow construction paper, and glued them on with white glue.
I put in the tissue paper, and then Spane put in two coloring books of his that he has not used.
Then we put in the stickers he picked out, and I put in the flip flops, and the barrettes in a little package I made out of tissue paper. Then I tied the handles together with more of the ribbon and made a big bow.
Spane had a great idea to put rhinestones on the bag, and I put one on each of the yellow daffodils.
