Bridge and Groom Ghosts

Halloween is my favorite holiday for crafts. There are so many fun projects you can do. Amber is making Zombie Dog Pumpkin for her son’s pumpkin contest. I’m sure she’ll win. I decided my theme this year was going to be about dead people, as I already have some Styrofoam I am going to use to make tomb stones.

We started our Halloween project this afternoon. A few weeks ago, I found some Polyethylene Foam laying discarded on the side of the road. As I walked past it, I thought, gee, it kind of looks like a ghost. Well, I went right back, picked it up, and took it home. Then when I was helping at the school a few days later, I found some smaller sheets and took those home, too, thinking I could make smaller ghosts.

So, I thought I would make a Bride and Groom ghosts, since I still have a lot of tulle left over from making Spane’s First Communion favor bags.

I wanted the ghosts to make noise if the wind blows, so the first thing I did was put some florist wire through a 25mm jingle bell that I had left over from making Easter Vigil Bells (more on that at Easter).

I cut out a girl’s face from a magazine, and put it under the foam, then gathered it under her face. I threaded the florist wire through the foam, then gathered the foam together and wrapped the wire around it to secure it. I also made a loop so I could hang my ghost later.

I cut some tulle for the veil, and secured that with a little bit of wire. Then I threaded the main wire through the veil and pushed it down a big to secure it.

She looked kind of cute at that point, but she looked more like an angel than a ghost, so I got the idea to wrap a red sparkle stem pipe cleaner around her neck, and stick the rest out beyond her head so it would look like a noose.

She still looked off, and I thought she would look better with hair. I’m lucky, I have a lot of hair in my brush.

Time to take out the glue gun. I hot glued my hair to the sides of her head, and hot glued the veil to secure it better to her head.

The final touch was to hot glue some rhinestones left over from Noelle’s birthday party flip flops project to the front of the veil for a tiara.

And here she is…

Making the groom was a lot more challenging. I didn’t want another ghost that looked like a bride, this guy had to wear pants!

One problem, I don’t sew. No problem, I thought, I can hot glue his outfit. So, first I cut out some pants, and glued the side together for the legs. Making the shirt was more problematic since I wanted set in sleeves. Remember, I don’t sew, and I don’t know anything about patters. But, I cut out a rectangle of the foam, cut out for the sleeve, and took two smaller pieces that I rolled up and glued to set the sleeves in.

I wanted him to have a bell, too. I strung another bell with florist wire, and put the bell in his pants (no jokes, please). I gathered the top of the pants together and secured them with the florist wire.

Then I put the completed top on and hot glued that to the pants. I had cut a hole in the top to put the wire through, and to put on a head.

I found an old photo in a magazine and cut that out for the grooms head, and glued it to a piece of the foam, then gathered the bottom, glued it, and stuck it into the body. At that point, Spane wanted to know if he was going to have at hat, didn’t all grooms wear hats? Amber’s husband, Stevie, wore a top hat to their wedding, so I’m sure that’s where Spane got the idea. A hat, I said, no problem, and I made a hat and hot glued that to the face. The man was complete.

When Spane saw the completed man, he wanted to know if I could make him some pants like that. I laughed and said it would be a long time before I figured out how to actually do that with fabric!

The final touch for the groom was a car that looks like a gun and I put it on the end of one of his sleeves. I’m not sure whether he wanted to kill his bride, or he’s going to kill himself when he sees her hanging himself. Jeeze Louise! How morbid!
