I loved this when I got it as a joke gift for Mother’s Day last year. I still have mine and light it when I want to have a little peace. It’s a sign – if Mom lit it, she lit it for a reason!
Kitchen Tools Your Mother Will Love
These are some of my favorite kitchen tools.
*Mini Whisk
I use these mini whisks a lot. They are wonderful for mixing things in small bowls or prep bowls where a regular-sized whisk will not fit.
Why not use a spoon? Spoons don’t always mix things as well as a whisk. For example, when mixing soup base with hot water, a spoon doesn’t always mix the base in, and you end up with a glob of soup base at the bottom of the bowl. These mini whisks do the job right the first time.
*Fish Spatula
Although I love fish, no one in my family likes it, and yet I use this tool all the time.
Because fish spatulas are thin, they are flexible and pick things up much easier than a thicker, traditional turner. It’s my preferred tool for flipping burgers, pancakes, sandwiches, quesadillas, and fish.
Half-Sheet Pan
This is a tool that comes in very handy.
It’s a half-sheet pan, which will fit most ovens. Full sheet pans are too large for residential ovens and are used primarily by restaurants. Sheet pans are great for sheet pan dinners, baking cookies, and a variety of other foods.
This half-sheet pan has a matching rack, so roasted bacon comes out crisp. It’s also great for chicken wings, like our Chinese BBQ Wings, which are made in a half-sheet pan.
Peeler
Seriously! If you need to peel fruits or vegetables, you need a sharp peeler whose head pivots. This peeler comes from Sweden. You cannot get a better peeler than this.
A funny story: After Chef Farion visited me, I couldn’t find my peeler. I went to his restaurant and saw one of his prep cooks happily peeling cucumbers with it. I demanded it back. The chef said I could have it if I could prove it was mine. I told the prep cook to turn it over, and my initials were painted on it. This peeler is so good that a chef stole it for one of his cooks! There is no better endorsement!
