If you’ve ever sliced a finger on a traditional mandoline, you know the fear is real. That’s why I was both skeptical and curious about the Nutrislicer Upright Mandoline—an enclosed, press-down slicer that claims to be safer and easier to clean. Spoiler: it delivered.
Information about the product
NutriSlicer Upright Mandoline

This upright mandoline is great because you cannot cut yourself while using it. See, there’s plenty of red on my gloves, but that’s from beets, not blood!
Summary
Nutrislicer Upright Mandoline = safer slicing without sacrificing sharpness.
It’s ideal for beets, potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, hard sausages, and perfect for salad prep, and easy to clean. A keeper in my kitchen.
In Depth Review
What’s in the Box?
Unboxing the Nutrislicer, you get:
- A clear housing unit with a secure blade slot
- A press-down lid for pushing food safely through the slicer
- A food holder to stabilize ingredients
- Multiple interchangeable blades labeled by thickness (1.5mm, 2.5mm, 3.3mm, 3.6mm)
It even includes an instruction manual—which I highly recommend reading. I figured out assembly in under a minute after checking the guide.
Safe Slicing, Finally
As someone who already owns a traditional mandoline, I admit it’s great—until you’re slicing fast, distracted, and suddenly you’re wondering if that red smear is beet juice or something worse. The Nutrislicer upright mandoline eliminates that fear entirely. You load the food from the top, press down, and the blade stays far from your fingers.
No glove. No fear. No ER visits.
I used it on Instant Pot–cooked beets for my Steakhouse Summer Salad, and the results were uniform, gorgeous beet slices—no fuss, no blood, just easy layers for my salad.
Why I Love This for Salads
Let’s be honest: most mandolines aren’t designed for soft vegetables like cooked beets. They mush or jam. But this one? Smooth slicing. The pressure top handled them beautifully, and cleanup was quick. The entire machine comes apart easily and can go in the dishwasher—though I recommend hand-washing the blades, which are very sharp.
I paired the slices with my Signature Salad Base of chopped lettuce, cabbage, and spinach for a bright, refreshing dish. And the Nutrislicer saved me time while keeping my hands clean and safe.
Cleanup
- Dishwasher safe housing
- Blades should be hand-washed carefully
- Everything snaps apart easily
- No hard-to-clean corners or crevices
I prefer to hand-wash mine—especially the blades—but the fact that the slicer comes apart in seconds makes it a breeze to maintain.
Storage
This upright mandoline folds for easy storage. It comes with a little box to hold the blades. I keep mine in the original box as it fits in easily and it’s small enough that it doesn’t take a huge amount of space.

Upright Mandoline – Final Thoughts
If you’re a home cook who values your fingers and wants a mandoline that actually feels safe, this tool is worth adding to your kitchen. I used it on beets, but it would be equally effective for cucumbers, potatoes, zucchini, or anything you want thin and uniform.
Whether you’re prepping for dinner or feeding a crowd (like I did for an Immaculate Heart High School reunion), this tool gets the job done quickly and cleanly.

NutriSlicer Upright Mandoline Review
Good afternoon and welcome to the Good
Plate’s Kitchen.
Today, we are reviewing a NutriSlicer.
Now, I have a mandoline, a regular
mandoline, and it’s wonderful, except that
every time I use it,
I’m really afraid that I’m
going to hurt myself and
have to go to the hospital.
This is not going to hurt me.
As you can see, you put the food in there,
it goes like that, press down.
Okay, I’m going to show you how to do it.
Let’s put it out of the box.
Okay, oh, first thing, let’s see,
what is this?
Okay, the first thing we have,
we have a little sheet.
The food goes in and it has a manual that
tells you exactly how to use it.
It’s actually a good idea to look at the
manual, because when you put it together,
make it a little confused.
I was confused for about five seconds.
I’m like, look at the manual and it will
tell you exactly how to use it.
Okay?
And we have this, and then we have these,
which are blades that go inside.
We’re going to check the look at some of
them.
This is for plain slides.
It tells you exactly what it is.
You could see that.
There we go.
2.5 millimeter.
And then we got 1.5 millimeter.
Yeah, like this.
the end of the works, so you don’t hurt
yourself.
And this is for… this is a 3.6
millimeter.
This is 3.3.
It’s our Julian.
And this is two slides.
Okay, we can also use these if you want to
make shoestring potatoes.
But we’re going to…
use it today for beets.
This one.
Yes, I’m going to use this one.
This is a big one.
Okay, so we’re going to slice beets.
I know everybody doesn’t like
beets, but I do. And that’s what I have.
And that’s what we’re going to use.
Okay, so I’m going to set this aside and
check out the machine.
This is the pressure.
It’s actually very easy to clean.
You see this is where it goes in.
And you lift it up like that.
You lift that up.
And remove this.
Stick it back like that.
We’re going to put the blade in it we want
to use.
the blade goes right like that.
And if you can see that there’s two little
spots down here.
And these two little tabs.
Going here.
So stick it in a little tabs like that.
And press down.
It snaps in place.
Okay, I know you’re going to take this
down for just down.
It also snaps in place.
And we’re like this.
Okay.
And this is to hold the food.
This holds the food.
Stick it in like this.
See, it’s out.
And you stick it in.
There’s like that.
All right.
So let’s see if they didn’t like that.
See.
Now.
Now that we have that.
We’re going to take a beet.
I just made these beets.
I’m going to have them with our salad
tonight.
Okay.
Stick that beet in there.
Actually, I have more beets.
And stick them both in here.
And see now they’re tightly in there.
Now this is like this is so amazing.
Instead of getting more.
Instead of killing your fingers.
Lift the top.
See this top.
Lift this.
You hold it.
You press down.
And now
You can see and we got beets.
Stick the last beet in there.
See, that this is just amazing.
And you don’t hurt your fingers.
And it’s easy.
And you can see we have beautiful
wonderful beets.
Or I’m going to have my salad clean up is
easy.
It’s also not a part.
It’s dishwasher.
You can stick it in your dishwasher.
Or you can wash it by hand.
I’m going to wash my by hand.
The blades should be washed by hand.
Have to be careful with them because they
are very very sharp.
But again, they’re sharp.
They do a really good job doing and beets.
Safely, I have no blood.
I have plenty of blood on my hands and my
gloves.
But it’s not blood.
And that’s a good thing.
Okay.
Thank you for watching.
And we’ll see you next time on the good
plate.
Thank you so much for watching.
