Peach Pancakes with Marsala Rose Butter Sauce

Peach pancakes with marsala rose butter sauce

I like to make something special on Wednesday mornings because Spane goes to school late on Wednesdays. Spane wanted pancakes, and as I looked in the pantry to get the ingredients out, I spied a can of peaches. I love peaches, and I especially like them with rose preserve and Marsala.

Rose preserves are made from real rose petals and sugar. Roses taste like they smell, and they are very good for you. They have lots of vitamin C, so I try to cook with roses, or drink rose juice during flu season. I’m staying healthy! You can usually find rose preserves at Mediterranean markets, or you can purchase rose preserves on-line at Amazon or other food web sites. They are also delightful on ice cream and a variety of other desserts. Don’t be afraid pf eating flowers, they taste good, and they’re good for you!

Spane’s Mothers’ Day Rosey Smoothie

Spane and Mom - the best Mothers' Day present ever!

Spane was upset on Friday when he told me that he had forgotten my Mother’s Day present at school. He started crying and I hugged him and said that he, himself, was the best present I had ever gotten. I mean that.

Last year, with the help of our roommate and friend, Maria, Spane made a whole table scape and breakfast parfait. This year, since he’s now eight, he wanted to do everything himself. We have a knitted throw blanket that he used as a table-cloth, and he cleaned the kitchen all by himself! I was so proud!

I was asleep this morning when our lovely Maine Coon, Rolo, came up to me and touched my face with her paw. I opened one eye, and saw she was getting ready to do it again, only this time there were claws. I said to her, “Did Spane tell you to wake me up?” I swear the cat nodded her head! I got out of bed, and Spane was excited to show me the neat and clean kitchen.

Spane went to the trouble this morning of making me his very own Rosy Smoothie, all by himself. It was delicious!

I hope everyone has a Happy Mothers’ Day – even if you’re not a mother!

Rose Fudge and Black Forest Fudge – Happy Birthday to Me!

Rose Fudge Truffles and Black Forest Fudge

It’s my birthday, and I can make anything I want to! It’s also Founder’s Night at my son Spane’s school, so I thought I should bring something to liven up the festivities. I got up early this morning and make two kinds of fudge, Rose Fudge and Black Forest Fudge. As of this writing, there are no pictures, but there will be as soon as it sets.

I love the flavor of roses, there is nothing like it. I have some rose syrup that I often put in lemonade, and love roses with peaches. What could be better in fudge?

One of my favorite cakes is a Sour Cherry Fudge cake, and I’m making that for my birthday cake (more later), so I decided to take that to the candy level as well.
